MONCLER

Origin: Monestier-de-Clermont, France

Founded: 1952

Founders: René Ramillon and André Vincent

Brand Story:

Founded in an alpine village near Grenoble, France—from which its abbreviated name is derived—Moncler originally manufactured quilted sleeping bags and lined tents to protect alpine workers from extreme mountain weather. Recognizing the thermal potential of their down filling, the house developed the first quilted down jackets for mountain laborers, which were quickly adopted by world-class mountaineers on historic expeditions to K2 and Makalu. Acquired in 2003 by Italian entrepreneur Remo Ruffini, Moncler transformed from a utilitarian outdoor brand into a global luxury giant, pioneering high-fashion activewear with its high-gloss, laqué-finish down coats. Instantly recognizable by its rooster and mountain crest logo, sleeve snap pockets, and the iconic Maya jacket, Moncler seamlessly bridges alpine utilitarian heritage with avant-garde runway design through creative endeavors like the collaborative Moncler Genius platform.
